Somewhere between a safari holiday and an arcade shooting gallery sits Great Game Serengeti, Hacksaw Gaming’s latest excuse to hand somebody a rifle and point them toward the reels.

The studio has moved its Great Game Rockies formula from the mountains to the savannah, filling a 5x3, 9-payline setup with lions, rhinos, zebras, giraffes and ostriches. The animals are not just there to decorate the paytable either. Each can carry a Star rating that becomes important once the shooting starts, with better animals opening the door to stronger Coin and Trap prizes.

The game feels surprisingly restrained by Hacksaw standards. Volatility is rated medium, the RTP sits at 96.29%, and the emphasis is more on building valuable Hunt sequences than surviving one enormous all-or-nothing bonus.

Still, this is Hacksaw, so things can escalate quickly, even with the modest 5,000x winning potential.

Betting Options and Bonus Features

The regular game keeps things fairly traditional at first. Players can choose from a wide betting range, wins are counted across 9 fixed paylines, and the premium animal symbols sit above J, Q, K and A royals.

Wilds can appear anywhere, replace normal paying symbols and pay 25x the stake when 5 line up.

When Hunting Season Opens

The Hunting Season symbol essentially hands control to the hunter.

It collects the amounts shown on Coins and other Traps, then adds those values to itself. The interesting part is that collected symbols keep their original amounts, so the same pool of value can continue influencing the sequence rather than disappearing immediately.

Wilds can make the whole Hunt considerably nastier. A Wild sitting beneath a successful shot receives a random x2 to x20 multiplier, which is then applied to between 1 and 5 Coin or Trap symbols.

One decent Hunt can therefore move through several stages: shoot the animal, create the Coin, collect it with a Trap, then multiply the result.

Stampede Reveal Clears the Junk

The Stampede Reveal gives the base game a useful way of producing stronger Hunting Season setups.

When it activates before the reels land, two things happen immediately: a Hunting Season symbol is guaranteed and the low-paying royal symbols are removed from that spin.

In other words, the hunter walks into the next shooting sequence with a board containing nothing but the symbols that actually matter.

Three Bonuses, Three Different Hunts

Great Game Serengeti does not simply increase the number of spins as more Scatters land. Each level changes the way Hunting Season behaves.

Great Game Serengeti is not the sort of Hacksaw slot that immediately tries to punch a hole through the bankroll. I actually think that suits it. The fun comes from watching a Hunt develop, seeing which animals get hit, and then hoping Coins, Traps and Wild multipliers start feeding into one another.

The 5,000x max win is small compared with some of Hacksaw’s monsters, but the bonus progression is much more interesting than simply offering 3 versions of the same free spins round. Khaki Quest, Roaring Reign and Zebrawl each push Hunting Season another step further.

If the goal is insane volatility and a six-figure multiplier ceiling, this probably is not the one. If the idea of turning an innocent safari into an increasingly elaborate shooting-and-collecting machine sounds entertaining, Great Game Serengeti has plenty going for it.
